Weekend Inspiration: A Dash of Sparkle

December 12, 2014 by Ariana | 0 Comments

With the holiday season in full swing, it seems like everyone’s social calendar is full these days. Store windows and catalogs (not to mention, daily emails) are filled with shimmering sequins, jewels and metallics! I’m always drawn to these sparkling embellishments and have many times, acquired a festive top or dress. Sadly, one can’t get away with wearing such bling year-round so this year, I’ve decided to focus on the details by adding a few touches here and there to step up my regular wardrobe for the season.

1. Get a manicure. Gone are the days of deciding between blush pink and red. My daughter loves trying the latest nail trends, from ombre to half moons to marbled. I prefer to experiment with color. Last year, I embraced the grey and navy nail trend. Can’t decide this year … perhaps Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year – Marsala? My favorite place in the city to get my nails done is Lux SF, which has the best selection of colors and polishes from unique brands. With its location in Hayes Valley, surrounded by great restaurants and shops, it’s easy and fun to make a day of it.

2. Go with a darker lip color. I’m obsessed with the Patent Polish Lip Pencil by MAC. It’s so easy to put on, I can do it without looking. Sultana is my current favorite, but this Berry Bold would be cheery.

3. Wear a luxurious fabric or jewel-tone with your basic black. Think velvet, mohair or silk. Scarlett, fuchsia, cobalt or evergreen.

4. Black tights + patent leather. Winterize with black tights, then dress them up with patent leather pumps. Melissa had these cute ones on the other day. It’s all in the details!

5. Add some sparkle to your favorite LBD! If you read our blog, you know, we like our sparkle. See here, here and here for some of our favorites.

Whether you’re taking in the Nutcracker, attending a company holiday party or just getting together with friends for a casual gathering, add a little something festive to your daily wardrobe. What are your go-to ways to dress up for the holidays?
