The Starting Point: Part 2

February 10, 2017 by Ariana | 0 Comments

This week, we met with a client to make the final selections for her master bedroom design.  No construction is involved; this is pure decorating.  We wrote before about finding inspiration for kitchens and bathrooms.  Now that the pieces of this room are all coming together, I thought I’d share about our starting point for this master bedroom project.

When it comes to bedrooms and other living spaces, it’s important to understand the space and what it will be used for. It’s no secret I have a tendency to move furniture around for fun, and we’ve found it’s extremely useful to do this in our client’s spaces too — early on.  It gives the client a good sense and feel for what the new space would be like, and also pins down the pieces to shop for.

Then the fun begins.  We often start with fabrics to get a stylistic feel for how we envision the design.  We tend toward neutrals for larger pieces so they can stand the test of time.  Pillows, bedding and accessories are great opportunities to introduce impactful elements that can be a little more daring or trendy.  This coverlet caught my eye and it became the inspiration for the colors and tone of the entire room.

These pictures don’t quite do it justice.  We can’t wait to show you the results.
