Last night I visited one of my favorite wine spots in San Francisco, Fig & Thistle, a cozy wine bar in Hayes Valley. I was introduced to Fig & Thistle about a year ago when I attended a small event in honor of a friend and I knew it was a gem. While centrally located in Hayes Valley, is tucked away from the hustle of the neighborhood on an alley between Grove and Hayes called Ivy.
The wine selection is made up of a curated list of some of the best, reasonably priced vineyards on the west coast. They always have a full selection – from bubbles to full-bodied reds. And, if you if you can’t decide on just one you can always choose a flight.
The space is cozy for sure (read, tiny). This bunk bed is one of my favorite places to sit. You can really sink in and hang out for a while. If you can actually score a spot on the bunk bed, I recommend that you don’t give it up. You’ll be sorry if you do.
While the space is small, I have always been able to find a seat when I have a little patience. People tend to stop in for a glass or two, but then head out to dinner elsewhere in the neighborhood, so the seats do turn over. One piece of advice is to have a snack before you go, or plan to have a meal after; F&T has a small selection of munchies, it is definitely NOT a dinner spot.
In my opinion, Fig & Thistle is the perfect spot to slow down and celebrate the season with a glass of wine (or a beer) with a friend. I hope you have the opportunity to check it out soon. Happy holidays.
