This weekend is the official start of summer. When I think of summer, I think of long days, picnics and BBQs, and summer cocktails. I don’t know about you, but I am ready to get this summer started.

What to eat you ask? Take it up a notch from the standard burgers and hotdogs. This delicious spread, courtesy of Apartment34.com, fits the bill perfectly. I can’t wait to try out this recipe for Pulled Pork Sliders.

If you are a New England-er at heart you may be thinking about seafood instead. Check out this recipe for Dungeness Crab Rolls, courtesy of Goop.com. Delicious and portable – they would be a perfect for a backyard BBQ or a picnic on the beach.
Nothing says summer like corn. Thanks, WaitingOnMartha.com, for this recipe for Grilled Corn Salad. It would go well with the sliders or the lobster rolls, and is gorgeous to boot.

The summer heat can make you pretty thirsty. What goes well with a bbq or picnic? Sangria, of course. One of my favorite celebrity chefs, Ina Garten (a.k.a. The Barefoot Contessa), has this recipe for Summer Rose Sangria that I can’t wait to try. With Grand Marnier, Cognac and pomegranate juice, the recipe offers a slight twist on an old favorite.
We think any of these options would be a terrific addition to a summer BBQ or picnic. If you are looking for a little inspiration this weekend give them a try and let us know what you think.
Happy Memorial Day!
