I was very happy to finally make a trip over to the goop MRKT this afternoon. In case you don’t follow Gwyneth Paltrow’s website/newletter (goop.com), the goop MRKT is a pop-up shop featuring items that can be purchased or are promoted on the goop website. I have been trying to get over there for the past few days but, for one reason or another, my plans were repeatedly derailed.
The MRKT is located in a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at 140 Maiden Lane. According to goop, the space was built in 1948 to house a gift shop but has been empty for the past several years. The space was renovated for the goop MRKT and it is truly beautiful. The staircase is the main attraction and it is gorgeous.
The view from above the staircase is just as beautiful, and you can more fully appreciate the enormous light fixture above the second floor.
The MKRT itself is highly curated, with the best of the best from beauty products, to clothing of all types (I saw everything from Old Navy for kids, to Madewell, to MaxMara – and everything in between), to home accessories. Each area has a museum quality installation which highlights the specific product.
One of the most useful areas was the beauty section. It included not only the goop product collaboration with Juicy Beauty, but nearly every product that goop has ever endorsed. There were loads of testers and I highly recommend a trip if you like to try before you buy.
Note that everything is for sale, even the mirrors.
The kitchen space was perfectly designed by the San Francisco natives at March. I could have spent hours perusing each piece that was carefully chosen for the space. There are choices at every price point and I found multiple pieces that I would love to own.
One thing that I really liked about the MRKT was the combination of brands that I recognized (notice the Staub pots on the stove) and some I hadn’t seen before. While I definitely considered the space to be “aspirational,” there were many pieces that were not out of reach for the average San Franciscan. There really is something for everyone.
Bottom line, I thought the goop MRKT was a gorgeous space with many beautiful items. I’ll definitely be making another visit before they close up shop on May 22. I hope you also get a chance to explore MRKT.
