After ten years of this warm “Jakarta” paint from Dunn Edwards, we decided the hallways/stairwell/foyer area needed a refresh to better blend with the cooler rooms that it connected.
To keep it neutral, I decided between shades of white and grey (obviously not keeping with my own advice!) and chose Cornforth White from Farrow & Ball. Despite its name, it is really a warm grey that looks different depending on the lighting and time of day.
In our earlier gallery wall, we purposefully used a mix of frames so we could continue to add on as the kids got older. After all, when we started it, they were only 1 and 4 years old. Now that we’ve taken down the frames so the walls could be painted, we decided to go with a more uniform look. We will definitely use the same color and type of frames. I like the look of larger mats to allow for uniform frame sizing:
Up for debate is whether to have the frames going up the stairs…
Or just focus the impact with large-scale frames on the main landing, as in this space:
Stayed tuned! My goal is to get this up before hosting Thanksgiving dinner.
