It’s no surprise that this trend traces back to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Manhattan penthouse living room.  Like many It-Items, the swinging chair is not so practical and not easily attainable.  Most of us aren’t necessarily willing or able to reinforce our ceilings to install one of these, despite how much fun they look.  The mom in us also sees our kids (or friends) swinging this straight into the wall.  But setting those concerns aside, we must admit that this trend has lasted longer than we would have thought.  Since the Goop-edition, the chair has been given a more casual feel:
