DIY: Thanksgiving Decor

November 19, 2014 by Melissa | 0 Comments

Thanksgiving is not typically a holiday that inspires me to think about decor, at least not beyond tabletop decor.  Sadly, by the time I’ve recovered from Halloween and Thanksgiving rolls around, I’ve moved on to thinking about when we’ll be getting our Christmas tree.  This year, I am trying to make a little more of an effort.  I started looking for inspiration with a search on Pinterest and I was struck by the fact that most of the items that I was drawn to seemed to be relatively easy to replicate at home.  So, I figured it was a good opportunity to try my hand at a DIY project.

Here are the choices I considered:

Though beautiful, I wasn’t willing to put additional holes in my wall for the photo collage.  As for the branch with leaves, I didn’t think my watercolor skills would be up to snuff.  Truth be told, I attempted to put together a mantle based on the foyer image above, but it seemed a little boring and mismatched.  Ultimately, I decided to try my hand at making a fall wreath.  I started by looking for instructions and a list of supplies.  I found one on Martha Stewart’s website (shocking, I know).  After finding the supplies I needed on Amazon.com, I was off and running.  I spent a couple hours working on the project one evening and here is the result:

Ultimately, I like the inspiration a little better than my finished product but I think the project was a success.  It will be a festive addition to our home for the holidays and it will work for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

p.s.  I can’t resist a beautiful table.   In case you are looking for a little table top inspiration this Thanksgiving, here are a few of my faves.
