This month, Elle Decor features Emmy Rossum’s newly renovated New York City apartment and it grabbed my attention.  The addition of bold color to a background of neutrals in this room works quite well.  The magazine quoted Emmy Rossum as saying she was going for “chic, European, the look of a modern girl who has inherited her grandmother’s stuff. I wanted it to have a young energy, but with old-fashioned touches.” I love this description and think her designer got it just right.

Of course, I would imagine that Emmy Rossum’s living room budget is bigger than most, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to break it down – on a budget.  While gorgeous, the sofa alone in her room is $4500.  I wanted to see if I could do the same room for less. Much less.  In fact, I challenged myself to try to pull together the look for less than $7,500.  Mission accomplished.
