I was traveling outside of California over the weekend and, after a few days away, I started to long for the beach. I am lucky to have spent most of my life on the coast and I will never get tired of looking out over the water at the horizon. As I was thinking about my love of the beach on the plane ride home, I started to think about my favorite beach house looks. Again and again I am drawn to combination of white and wood. The white doesn’t compete with the beauty of the surroundings and the wood warms the space and keeps it from feeling too stark. Here are some examples of what I am talking about.

While I don’t think I’ll ever have a home as spectacular as these, I think you can achieve the same feel with white walls and the right light fixture (and other accessories). I have seen some beautiful, modern, wooden pendants and chandeliers that would start me moving in the right direction. Here are a few of my favorites.
I think these would be wonderful in a guest room or even a nursery; they belong in a space where you want to create a feeling of serenity and calm. If you can’t have the beach right outside your door, these fixtures (when combined with the right color palette) would make you feel like you are on vacation all year long.
