This year for Mothers’ Day we are trying to keep things simple. Rather than heading to my husband’s golf club for a very nice brunch (our typical m.o.), we have decided to host a late lunch at home with family and friends.
We are starting with a meal that my husband can take the lead in preparing. Since we are planning lunch on the late side, we’ll definitely start with light snacks – crudite, cheese, salami, crackers, nuts and my favorite spring cocktail, an Aperol Spritz (recipe here). The main course will include steaks and veggies on the grill, lemon fusilli with arugula that I can make in advance (recipe here), green salad, and good bread from a local bakery. For dessert, chocolate and lemon tart (a contribution of one of our guests). I have my fingers crossed that this will be our easiest meal ever.
Just because we are keeping things simple, doesn’t mean that we can’t have a lovely table. We have a very large dining room table, which is great for entertaining, but our tablecloth options are limited. We tend to use a white, “hotel” style tablecloth because the size is right. But, sometimes a white tablecloth can feel too formal and/or too boring. I wanted to find a few casual items to take the formality down a notch and reflect the simple atmosphere we are trying to create. Here is what I found.
None of these items will break the bank, but they are all so beautiful that I know I will use them through the spring and into the summer. I am excited for our simple Mothers’ Day celebration this year. Happy Mothers’ Day!
