I was excited to see that a new Apple store was opening on Michigan Avenue last week. Having visited many Apple stores in many cities around the world, I can say with complete certainty that this store is the greatest example of store design that we have seen from Apple. It appears to be constructed entirely of glass and literally disappears into the background from every angle. According to Apple, every design feature was intended to “minimize the boundary between the city and the Chicago River.” Mission accomplished.
In addition to disappearing from the outside, the boundaries disappear when you are inside the space. Each view from the store allows the visitor to feel like they are still a part of the world around them.

In addition to being beautiful architecturally, the displays are also quite artistic. From the rows of iPhone covers and iWatch bands, to the perfectly symmetrical tables of iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, it is a beautiful shopping experience.
If you have any reason at all to buy a new Apple product and you are in the Chicago area, take a trip to the new Apple store. It is worth the price of admission. My only piece of advice . . . don’t go on a weekend. You’ll enjoy the experience more without the crowds.
