They answer to many a name — a chaise, settee, ottoman, backless sofa, and daybed. Despite their laid back labels, these versatile pieces are actually quite functional. We like to use them for two main purposes. In a large room that can accommodate multiple seating areas, the open chaise can serve to delineate separate spaces while maintaining a room’s openness.
In smaller rooms, we suggest a chaise for additional seating in spaces that naturally flow to other areas. They are great when used in front of entry ways into a dining room or outdoor area, or in front of a fireplace.
While not an obvious choice, the chaise can provide a functional place to lounge. Who couldn’t use that? Here are some of our favorites:
